The department of forestry has developed an integrated forest management plan to conserve Mulanje Mountain.
In an interview with YFM online , District forestry officer for Mulanje, Erick Mbingwani said the plan is crucial because it will curb challenges such as encroachment and illegal harvesting of food crops.
“For a long time we have been working with Mulanje Mountain Conservation trust and the Association of porters and guides and now we thought it wise to incorporate other partners who are doing forestry related activities,” said Mbingwani.
“We have been having problems with people cultivating right inside Mulanje Mountain but we are confident that the new plan will arrest the situation.”
He also spoke about the involvement of youths in their plan.
In her remarks Senior Chief Chikumbu of Mulanje , expressed commitment to conserving Mulanje mountain and make the forestry plan prolific.
