Zomba Central aspiring Member of Parliament Yunus Mussa has called for free and fair primary elections which will be held on December 16, 2018.
Mussa who is former Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) Vice President for Eastern Region made the plea during a rally at Gymkhana ground where he also distributed different items which he bought from Zomba Flea market worth K1.5 million.
Speaking to YFM Online after the meeting, Musa emphasized the significance of credible elections in a democratic society to ensure the prevalence of peace.
“As you are aware that we are about to go for primary election so today I thought to call all the people to show solidity to the almighty party DPP and his excellence the president of the party professor Arthur Peter Mutharika.
“My message was that in democracy you need to have free and fair elections so that candidates should accept the results at the end of the day,” said Mussa.
He expressed the need for the party to desist from imposing a candidate during the primary elections.
“We should let the membership of the party to choose their candidate, I said nobody should impose a candidate because these are the things that create confusion and then you find the party being split,” Mussa concluded.
