Three people have died following a multiple-vehicle collision on Friday at Linthipe 3 Bridge in Dedza.

Two others sustained serious injuries and 13 escaped with minor injuries.

Dedza Police Deputy Spokesperson Cassim Manda the accident involved a freight-liner truck, a min bus and Isuzu van.

“The truck hit a rear part of a min bus which was also heading towards the same direction after the driver failed to control the vehicle due to over speeding,” he said.

“In an effort to avoid hitting the min bus the truck swerved to the offside of the road where it collided head on with another motor vehicle.”

Two people died on the spot due to severe head injuries.

Manda identified the deceased as 24 year-old Matiyasi Marko and Mike Jabu, 16, all from Balaka.

Another unknown passenger who was in the Isuzu van died whilst receiving first aid treatment .
