A grouping of journalists trading under the banner, Media Advocates for the Advancement of Child Rights has encouraged journalists in the country to double their efforts in reporting child issues.
The call has been made by the grouping’s treasurer, Bashir Amin in his outlook of how journalists and media houses should carry-out their duties in 2019.
Speaking to YFM, Amin said much as journalist have done a commendable job in 2018, there is more to be done in bringing to light issues that continue to impinge on child rights in the country.
“Journalists are doing a lot in as far as child reporting is concerned, however, we still not have arrived, the fight against all evils facing children is not yet won, more has to be done,” Amin stressed.
In the words of Amin, much attention has lately been put on political issues than child rights a development which is putting more children vulnerable.
“We want to see stories concerning children making headlines in both the print and electronic media this year, it is sad that political stories seem to be considered powerful over stories to do with children but this is not true,” he concluded.
