A draw for the finals of Women’s Football Presidential Cup at national level was conducted at Chiwembe Technical Center in Blantyre on Tuesday.
According to the draw both the semifinal and final matches will be played on January 12th and 13th respectively at Bingu National Stadium in Lilongwe.
Teams involved in the competition, that also emerged champions from three regional leagues across the country, are Ntopwa Football Club from Southern region, DD Sunshine and Skippers FC from Central region and CY Sisters from the Northern region.
According to the draw, CY Sisters will play against the Skippers while Ntopwa will face DD Sunshine in the semi-final stage.
The winners will battle for the gold medal in a final match to be played the following day.
Football Association of Malawi (FAM) competitions manager, Gomezgan Zakazaka said the whole league and the final draw have been run in a transparent and professional manner and FAM is committed to promote women’s soccer in the country.
Zakazaka said: “We are satisfied with the way competition has been run including the final draw and this shows that women’s soccer is moving the right direction and we are looking forward to taking the league to an international standard.”
National Women Football Committee (NWFC) General Secretary, Lina Nteya, said the competition among teams was very tough citing that the gap of points between the teams was so narrow.
She cited an example of the Southern Region league which saw the regional champions Ntopwa and the runners up BT Zero whom both collected the same number of points but the former won on goal difference.
Skippers FC are the current defending champions and the winner for this year’s trophy will pocket K3 million.
