Chief Resident Magistrate Mzondi Mvula has finally released UTM party National Youth Director Bon Kalindo on court granted bail.
He was arrested in Lilongwe on January 10, 2019.
Reacting to the ruling by the Zomba Chief Resident Magistrate’s Court, lawyer representing Kalindo, Kondwani Kumitengo expressed delight with the development despite that the court could have made the ruling last Friday.
“Generally I have mixed feelings in a sense that the ruling would have come on Friday when we made an application but all in all we are delighted that he is now on bail,” Kumitengo said.
Kalindo is to appear again in court on Thursday for plea taking.
Speaking to the crowd that had gathered outside the court, the Mulanje south parliamentarian commended people who showed him support, including leader of opposition Lazarus Chakwera for condemning his arrest.
“I must commend you all for your overwhelming support, let me assure you here that I am now much stronger than ever, they have energize me, I will narrate much in the future, I do not have to defy court orders by commenting on issues that are in court,” Kalindo said amid cheering from the crowd.
Some of the notable UTM party figures who were present at the court included one of its founders and party patron Noel Masangwi and Felix Njawala.
