Four people have died after a vehicle they were traveling in overturned on their way to this year’s Chilembwe Day Commemorations in Chiradzulu.
In his address during the event, President Peter Mutharika said 8 others were rushed to Queen Elizabeth Central hospital in Blantyre for treatment after sustaining serious injuries.
The accident involved a truck which was carrying 45 people believed to be Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) supporters from Mulanje.
Mutharika has since directed that government should assist the bereaved families in funeral arrangements.
Rev John Chilembwe is the founder of Providence Industrial Mission (PIM) and Malawi’s freedom fighter.
