The Malawi Health Equity Network- MHEN has applauded the government for putting concerted efforts to combat cholera during this rainy season.
MHEN Executive Director, George Jobe said so far this year, Malawi has recorded two cholera deaths in the districts of Blantyre and Chikwawa as compared to 30 deaths in the previous rainy season.
“Last rainy season we had many cases across the country but that is has not been the case this year we know only two cholera death cases ,this is good news to the whole nation,” Jobe said.
However, Jobe advised relevant stakeholders doing awareness campaigns to maintain and people to take their front line role by observing good sanitation practices to prevent more cases.
“Our message is that people should maintain the situation, people should maintain hygienic practices,” said Jobe while adding that: ” The ministry of health and other Non-governmental Organizations accredited to do the health education on issues of cholera should continue so that this year we should not have as many cases as it was last year.”
