When local music lovers thought had enough of South African acts who have been flocking to Malawi for a quiet period of time, Nyasa Music Awards has one more on offer.
Within its two-year existence, Nyasa Music Awards has taken a new twist by introducing the female house artist Busiswa and the award winning south-African rapper AKA to share the same stage at this year’s NMAs set from 19 to 21 April.
The selection of the two has unsurprisingly created a warm enthusiasm from several comers of the internet.
One of the comments on NMAs Facebook page reads: “I don’t have time to Google lyrics, I sing what I hear jiki jiki, handy Andy all rice on me, go komkooooo!” in reaction to AKA popular track Fela in Versace.
AKA and the Kalawa chikita herself who is also a good poet, are expected to thrill with their hits and take local music lovers on a journey of fun.
Even though the organizers of the show have not announced the venue of the event yet, music fans from the commercial city of Blantyre and capital city Lilongwe have already started throwing words at each other on social media on where the event should take place.
Ahead of the third coming, the awards however, have been heavily criticized especially on the nomination list.
According to Nyasa Music Award Facebook page, the organizers say; “You advised us, we have learn’t lessons and now it’s time to do better, Malawians should expect nothing but the best.”
The Ntchana hitmaker Fredokiss, the award winning gospel Hip pop artist Gwamba, the controversial R&B singer Kelly Kay and Faith Mussa are some of the current local headliners to spice up the event.
The South African Professional DJ, Kaygee and Malawian Dj Nathan tune are already on board to tear down desks.
The organisers said they will announce the venue of the event on February 1, 2019.
Nyasa Music Awards was introduced with an aim of recognizing Malawian talent and empowering artists and musicians in the country to compete successfully on the international market.
