Sponsors for the just ended 2018/19 Chitetezo Mbaula Southern Region Football Association (SRFA) league, United Purpose (UP), a non-governmental organization (NGO), are yet to decide on whether they will continue rendering their sponsorship for the league.
The league, which SRFA signed a one year deal with the sponsors, crowned its champion, Nyasa Big Bullets reserve at Kamuzu Stadium on Sunday.
But commenting on whether UP will bankroll the sponsorship for the 2019 season, UP Marketing Manager, Liviness Msafu said they will soon have a round table discussion with SRFA and Football Association of Malawi (FAM) to map the way forward.
Msafu said: “We are yet to go back to a drawing board together with FAM and SRFA to see the way forward so as of now I can’t say much on the matter but very soon we will come back to you.”
However, Msafu expressed satisfaction with the way the season, which they have sponsored at a tune of K11 million, has been run.
Commenting on the same, SRFA chairman, Raphael Humba, said much as their committee commends UP for the sponsorship but they will respect any decision from the sponsor.
“If they are coming back with the sponsorship we will be grateful but if not then we will come up with another alternative and move forward.”
Meanwhile reports indicate that Rab Processors Limited has shown interest to take over the league’s sponsorship if UP decides to quit.
Prize presentation for 2018 season will take place on February 4 where the champions for the premier division, Nyasa Big Bullets Reserve, will get K1.8 million, the runners up Ntopwa FC will pocket K1 million and the third placed, Hangover United will receive K500, 000.
In Division One, the winners will get K1 Million with the runners-up pocketing K500 000 while the third-placed team will receive K300 000. There will also be K50 000 for the Golden Boot Award.
