Umodzi Party (UP) President Professor John Chisi of presented his nomination papers on Monday with a call to Malawians to choose wisely in the May 21, 2019 polls.
Speaking after presenting his papers and signing the code of conduct at Comesa Hall in Blantyre, Professor Chisi said power in the wrong hands is a recipe for disaster.
He also strongly condemned political violence and urged the Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) to be vigilant before, during and after the forthcoming tripartite elections.
Chisi says he will fight for land rights for all Malawians so that their land is not grabbed by foreigners. He has also urged MEC to conduct credible & fair elections.
“Malawians should have confidence in Umodzi Party. We will transform this country and rule in unity, prosperity and justice,” he said.
Professor Chisi also announced that he has picked Umodzi Party Director of Strategic Planning, Timothy Kamulete as his running mate.
In her remarks MEC Chairperson, Justice Jane Ansah said the presentation of presidential nomination papers shapes the rest of the electoral functions.
She therefore urged Professor Chisi to champion the cause for a clean campaign.
