The main opposition Malawi Congress Party (MCP) torch bearer in the May 21, 2019 presidential polls Dr. Lazarus Chakwera has vowed to end corruption and promote the rule of law.
Dr. Chakwera said this during the presentation of nomination papers to the Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) at Comesa Hall in Blantyre on Monday.
“I have come here to build a new Malawi using the ChakweraHi5agenda which will guarantee servant leadership, uniting Malawi, prospering together, ending Corruption and the rule of law,” he said.
Dr. Chakwera together with his running mate, Sidik Mia, said he presented the nomination papers in response to the call by Malawians for him to stand as president amid social and economic ills rocking the nation.
“Fellow Malawians, I have come here at the request of Karonga and Chitipa, where our schools lack books. I have come here on orders from Neno and Mwanza, where our infrastructure has been neglected.”
She however, urged the candidates to ask their supporters to desist from violence.
Dr. Ansah promised Malawians to deliver a free, fair and credible electoral process adding that MEC shall work independently with credibility and impartiality.
On Sunday, leader of the newly formed Freedom Party (FP) Khumbo Hastings Kachali announced that he has pulled out of the May 21 tripartite election to support Dr. Lazarus Chakwera of the Malawi Congress Party (MCP) President.
Speaking during the press briefing, the former Vice President said his party shares ideologies with MCP hence forming a coalition ahead of the polls.
