Zomba district has recorded zero cases of cholera in the 2018/2019 cholera season, a health official has confirmed.
Speaking to YFM, Zomba District Health Environmental Officer , Innocent Mvula attributed the feat to early preparations.
He said though the cholera season starts on November 1 they started their preparatory activities in June last year including imparting skills to workers on cholera management.
“We know that Zomba is one of the cholera hot spots mainly due to Lake Chirwa which is inland lake so every year we make sure that we are well prepared for any case that may hit us.
“And for this cholera season our calendar starts from first November of every year but we started sensitizing the masses, making sure that our medical stock and equipment in the facilities are in place in June last year,” Mvula said.
He assured people in the district that his office will continue with the surveillance in readiness for any cholera outbreak.
