Zomba City Mayor’s Trophy football and netball finals are set to take place on Thursday, March 14 at Zomba Police Mess ground.
General Secretary for the organizing committee, Michael Likaka, said all the preparations have reached the final stage.
Likaka said: “Right now we are just looking forward for the final activities that include parades, football and netball matches and prize presentations.”
Mponda Primary School will face Prison Primary School in a battle for a silver wear in the football category while Thundu and Police primary schools will fight for the championship in the netball category.
The champions in the football category will pocket K600, 000 with runners up walking away with K300, 000.
The third and fourth placed teams will receive K150, 000 and K75, 000 respectively while all the teams that reached quarter final stage will be compensated with K50, 000 each.
Champions and the runner’s up in the girl’s category will be awarded K500, 000 and K250, 000 respectively while the third placed team will go away with K125, 000.
The fourth placed team will get K60, 000 and all the quarter finalists will pocket K25, 000 each.
Before the games kick off, there will be a parade, led by Zomba Box 2 secondary school band, from Zomba city council offices to police mess ground.
Zomba Box 2 secondary school band will this year lead the parade unlike in the past whereby the parades were led by Police or Army or Prison bands.
Zomba Mayor’s Trophy is being sponsored by FDH bank and Castel Malawi at a tune of K10 million.
