Police in Zomba have arrested three suspected notorious criminals in connection with a spate of robberies in the city of Zomba.
Zomba Police Station Public Relations Officer Sub Inspector Patricia Sipiliano identified the suspects as 42-year-old Michael Banda, Patrick Phiri, 38, and 24-year-old Samuel Somanje.
Sipiliano said the suspects hit a number of lodges in the city, stealing valuable items and cash in their attacks.
“On the night of 25th February this year, the three and other five suspects stormed into River Walk Lodge and robbed lodgers of their precious items and cash amounting to k1.6 million,” Sipiliano said.
The gang is alleged to have also hit Victory, Mulunguzi Riverside and Masuku lodges, Dignitas International as well as St. Antony Community Day Secondary School.
Banda and Phiri were arrested on March 13 in Lilongwe while Somanje was netted in Zomba on March 16 while planning another robbery at Green Acres Lodge.
Investigations are still underway to arrest the remaining suspects.
Police have also recovered of some of the stolen property.
