Zomba City Council (ZCC) has introduced car parking fees in its premises in the city starting from April 8, 2019.
Speaking to YFM, ZCC Public Relations Officer, Mercy Chaluma said the move will increase its revenue collection to ensure good sanitation around the city and quality service delivery.
“This move will enhance revenue that we collect as Zomba City.”
Chaluma further said that they will use their mandate to enforce the development since it is a new phenomenon in the city.
“We shall use our existing laws to ensure that people comply to the new tax that we have introduced as a council,” said Chaluma while adding: “We believe people will comply for the betterment of people of Zomba.”
13 people have been employed to drive the collection of car parking fees in Zomba city.
Other cities like Blantyre already introduced car parking fees.
