36 volunteers for the Malawi Red Cross Society have undergone a training on Safer Access and First Aid in the southern region.
The aim of the training was to equip the participants with knowledge on how to provide first aid in times of disasters and ensure they are safe and accepted in their humanitarian work.
In an interview with YFM, Director of programs at the MRCS Prisca Chisala said the training was important ahead of the 2019 tripartite elections because tensions are highly likely in this period.
“We thought it wise to organize this training to refresh minds of the providers on these two critical issues”.
Chisala however said they will assist anyone in need regardless of their political affiliation.
So far volunteers in the south and northern regions of Malawi have been trained, and the central region volunteers will be trained soon.
Meanwhile Immaculate Kaunda who is the chairperson and first aid trainer for MRCS Zomba division said the training has prepared them on what to anticipate at the polling centers and beyond.
“The knowledge that we have gained will help us to deliver our work freely, without fear or favor”.
