Tanzanian President John Magufuli arrived in Malawi on Wednesday for his two day official visit.
President Magufuli and his wife, Janet Magufuli arrived through Kamuzu International Airport in Lilongwe and were welcomed by Malawi leader Peter Mutharika and his wife, Gertrude Mutharika.
Soon after arrival Magufuli and his wife laid wreaths at the statue of president Bingu wa Mutharika at Parliament Building.
A statement by the ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation said the two heads of states and governments will lead the bilateral talks on Wednesday on thematic areas aimed at strengthening the cordial relationship between the two countries.
On Thursday president Magufuli, accompanied by President Peter Mutharika, will officially open the 2019 Tobacco Marketing Season at the Lilongwe Auction Floors before leaving for Dar es Salaam in Tanzania.
Magufuli’s first visit to Malawi comes at a time when the two countries are yet to resolve a boundary dispute on Lake Malawi which Tanzanian government argues it owns, contrary to colonial boundaries set in the 1890s.
