Youth Net and Counselling (YONECO) staff have donated assorted items to about 400 adolescent girls and women in Nsanje who were affected by Cyclone Idai.
Following the floods that hit some parts of the southern region of Malawi in March 2019, YONECO staff members joined forces and raised funds amongst themselves which were used to buy items for the disaster survivors.
The items which include sugar, kitchen utensils, sanitary pads, wrappers, clothes, laundry and bathing soap were distributed to survivors in Nyamithuthu and Kalupsa camps on Wednesday, May 8, 2019.
YONECO is currently conducting roadshows in flood evacuation camps to raise awareness on child protection, Gender Based Violence (GBV) and Community Based Complaints Mechanism (CBCM) among other things.
The activity is being done in Chikwawa, Zomba, Machinga, Phalombe, Nsanje and Mulanje under YONECO’s Flood Emergency Response Programme – with funding from UNICEF.
