Zomba District Health Office (DHO) has pledged to continue putting measures to combat potential cholera outbreaks in the district.
Zomba District Health Promotions and Communications Officer Anorld Mndalira told YFM that their office do not break with the cholera combating efforts despite that the 2018-2019 rainy season which kicked-off in November ended in April.
“We have necessary materials to fight cholera including medication and equipment,” said Mndalira
He said they are conducting awareness campaigns on the importance of re-constructing toilets and following hygiene practices in the areas which were affected by this years’ devastating cyclone Idai.
“We are still giving out health talks and open air campaigns to pass messages on cholera in our clinics,” said Mndalira while adding: “We are also encouraging them to re-build their latrines which were damaged by floods towards the end of the rainy season.”
During the start of 2018-2019 rainy season the ministry of health and population services provided cholera vaccine to people around Lake Chirwa.
No case of cholera outbreak was recorded in the 2018-2019 rainy season in Zomba.
