Malawi Congress Party (MCP) president Lazarus Chakwera has condemned the torching down of its regional offices in Blantyre in the early hours of Monday morning.
Addressing a news conference in Lilongwe, Lazarus Chakwera said those who have petrol-bombed the MCP offices have done so on political grounds.
According Chakwera, the MCP will not retaliate on the development with an aim of preserving peace in the country amid rising cases of political tensions.
“Malawi is a peaceful country with a peace-loving people, and if your hope in this attack is to destabilize the country, you have failed,” said Chakwera.
The MCP President has since faulted the governing Democratic Progressive Party for being in the front line destabilising peace in the country.
“Malawi Congress Party is a law-abiding institution, and if your hope in this attack is to provoke us to commit lawless acts of violence in retaliation against the DPP so that it can declare a State of Emergency and restrict the right of Malawians, you have failed,” cautioned Chakwera.
The MCP leader has also asked all party supporters to be converging in all their party offices across the country and follow the court proceedings through the radio when the electoral case commences.
“I am inviting all Malawians of good will to gather here at the MCP Headquarters and at other MCP offices in the regions and districts of the country to listen to the broadcast of the trial together,” said Chakwera.
