Women in the country have been urged to take football coaching as a career and be able to assist in football development in the country.
Zomba City Council mayor, Benson Bulla, said this during the opening ceremony of the FAM C football coaching course in Zomba which has attracted 37 participants including one woman.
Bulla also said in his capacity as a newly elected mayor he will find sponsors for youth football leagues in the city which will be contested by both boys and girls.
“I have only been two months in office and it is my duty to ensure that football in Zomba develops from the grassroots and this can only be achieved if companies and business individuals provide needed resources in support of the sport,” said Bulla.
The only woman participant at the coaching course, Violet Bunya, said there are many women football teams that need inspiration from women coaches.
“Many women shun football thinking it’s a game for men only, but I want to differ with such motive and I encouraging more women to take part in football coaching and be able to develop women football in the country,” she said.
At the end of the coaching course, participants will be awarded with certificates after sitting for the examination.
The course has been organized by the district football coaches committee in conjunction with the Football Association of Malawi (FAM).
