Police in Ntcheu are keeping in custody a Mozambican couple on a charge of offering for sale a four-year old boy with albinism at Tsangano trading center.
According to Ntcheu Police Publicist, sub inspector Hastings Chigalu, Juwawo Bisiwasi, 19, and his wife, Sonia Sipotsi, 30, entered Malawi through Tsangano, on Thursday, with the boy and started looking for possible buyers in drinking joints and other places.
“Juwawo, who is the step father of the child approached a certain person and offered him the boy at a price of K9.5 million a development which prompted well-wishers to report the matter to police.
“Then the civilian policemen contacted the suspect by disguising themselves as possible buyers and they arranged to meet and complete the transaction on the following day.”
On Saturday, at around 1700 hours, the couple accompanied by the child arrived at the agreed place where the arrest was made.
Police have also arrested a Malawian village headman, Marko Malisero aged 71, who together with a Mozambican couple were also selling fire arms; 2 assault rifles, 1 AK47 and a muzzle loader.
The couple hails from Nsiyankhungu village, Traditional Authority Chisamba, in Makanga district, Mozambique, and have been charged with trafficking of person.
While Marko Malisero hails from Benalida Village, Traditional Authority Dambe in Neno district and together with Juwawo Bisiwasi, will answer a case of being found in possession of a Firearm without license.
All the three suspects have since appeared before Ntcheu First Grade Magistrate Court, and are currently on remand at Ntcheu Prison pending their trial.
