Chitipa authorities searching for missing 3-month-old-baby

Police in Chitipa are looking for a woman who is suspected to have stolen a three-month-old baby.

Chitipa police spokesperson Gladwell Simwaka said the incident happened on October 2, 2019 at the victim’s house at Katutula village in Traditional Authority (TA) Mwaulambia after the suspect was allowed to spend a night at the house.

Simwaka said the unknown woman, familiarized herself with the mother of the child, Mester Nawala, 40 and asked for an accommodation.

He said the woman was allowed to spend a night at the Nawala’s house and she slept at the sitting room together with other three children.

Simwaka said the mother and her three-month-old baby slept in her own bedroom.

The following morning, around 0400hrs, the mother discovered that the baby was nowhere to be seen and the suspect had disappeared.

A search for the woman and the child was conducted around the village but to no avail.

Police have since appealed to the general public to come forth with information that may lead to the arrest of the woman and recovery of the baby.

Simwaka has also cautioned people against trusting and entertaining strangers in their homes.
