Malawi Health Equity Network (MEHN) has urged legislators to consider allocating a separate budget for fuel for generators for power back up in public hospitals.
MEHN Executive Director George Jobe made the call amid massive power outages in the country.
The current health budget did not consider fuel for generators in public health facilities a situation which always puts the facilities under pressure.
“Some procedures require electricity in the hospitals like in the intensive care unit, sterilization equipment and laundry and in the theaters.”
Jobe said during power blackouts the facilities are forced to take money which is allocated in other services to purchase fuel in times of black outs a situation which makes other services to suffer.
