As part of commemorating the International Union Credit Day, Central Region Chapter 2 SACCO has donated assorted items worth K2 million to Lilongwe Social Rehabilitation Center (SRC).
The International SACCO Day celebration, which has been commemorated under the theme; Local Service: Global Reach, saw over 10 SACCOS from the central region joining forces.
In an interview with YFM Online, Board Member for Chapter 2 Central Region SACCO Pamela Matumbi said they decided to make the donation as a way of paying back to the community.
“For us we thought that something we have set as members of Chapter 2 SACCO we can give back to the community through such a noble course,” said Matumbi.
On his part, Deputy Director of Social Welfare in the Ministry of Gender, Children, Disability and Social Welfare Enoch Bonongwe was grateful for the donation saying it will help in alleviating challenges children face at the center.
“As a Ministry we are so excited to have this donation because the donation will go a long way to help alleviating the problems we are facing here,” Bonongwe said.
The main goal of the day is to raise awareness about the great work that credit unions are doing around the world and give members’ opportunity to get more people engaged.
Since 1948, the day is celebrated on the third Thursday of October each year, but locally, the day was commemorated on Saturday.
