Mangochi, Mulanje and Zomba have finally identified champions to represent their districts to this year’s First Capital Bank (FCB) Under-20 regional finals (South) which have been slated for 16 November, 2019.
The Southern Region finals, which are held on rotational basis, will this year take place in Mulanje district. Inondo FC (Mangochi), Mathambi Soccer Saints (Mulanje) and Disciples FC (Zomba) will battle it out at the finals, including Blantyre who are yet to identify their champion.
But according to the FCB Under-20 log table for Blantyre, which YFM Online has seen, Ndirande Stars are destined to emerge the winners. They have accumulated an unassailabe 62 points with five games remaining to wind up the league. Maggie Chombo Academy are currently on second with 55 points followed by Griffin Young Stars with 52 points.
Inondo FC emerged winners in Mangochi with a point seperating them with runners-up Mangochi United Reserve. They finished on 26 points from 14 games played whereas Mangochi United Reserve completed their assignments and accumulated 25 points.
In Zomba, Disciples FC have 43 points and are being trailed by Mulunguzi FC who are on 39 points. The two teams will meet in their final fixture on Sunday, 27 October 2019. However, the outcome of the result will not change anything after the game, eventually declaring Disciples FC champions of Zomba district.
Mathambi Soccer Saints of Mulanje have made it once again to the regional finals this year. They have tied with FOMO FC on 33 points from 14 games played. Both teams won ten games, drew three and lost one. Goal difference is what has determined Mathambi Soccer Saints as champions of the district.
Southern Region Youth Football Committee (SRYFC) general secretary James Sawerengera, described this year’s games as competitive. He, however, pointed out that the region has maintained last year’s ambassadors to the regional finals.
