The Public Accounts Committee of Parliament has accused the Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) of laxity when dealing with public finances.
The development fellows failure by the commission to fully explain transaction of public finances amounting to K110 million which were deposited into an FDH Bank Account of MEC Chief Elections Officer in 2016.
PAC Chairperson Ken Kandodo told YFM that the committee is disappointed with how the electoral body is handling tax payers’ money.
Kandodo added that it is disheartening to note how some officers at MEC fail to execute their duties in accordance with the law.
MEC Chief Elections Officer Sam Alfandika said the commission is still working on the issue and that measures will be put in place to avoid re-occurrence of monetary related issues.
