Parliament says it will summon officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Immigration and Citizenship Services on issues regarding dubious sale of state owned land to foreigners.
The International Relations Committee of Parliament has disclosed this after receiving a complaint from the Human Rights Consultative Committee (HRCC) on how foreigners are owning land in the country through corrupt means.
Chairperson for the committee Patrick Bandawe said his committee will engage relevant stakeholders for necessary action on the issues which has exposed a serious rot in the country’s land management system.
HRCC chairperson Robert Mkwezalamba said it is sad that the country’s laws on immigration have been weakened by selfish people.
He further lamented that the country`s citizens living in diaspora are facing untold human rights violations yet in Malawi foreigners are just grabbing land anyhow.
