Parliament has implored the Treasury to release funds for the purchasing enough maize amid fears of worsening hunger in the country.
The Agriculture and Irrigation Committee of Parliament has proposed the move after engaging the National Food Reserve Agency (NFRA) and the state grain marketer Agricultural Development and Marketing Cooperation (ADMARC).
Chairperson for the committee Sameer Suleman told YFM that the two government institutions need treasury support to adequately reach out to the intended hunger stricken communities.
Suleman has however expressed optimism that the country will have enough maize to fight hunger.
