Malawi Police Service says the investigations into the allegations of mass rape that occurred in Msundwe, M’bwatalika and Mpingu areas in Lilongwe are yet to be finalized.
A month has passed since the commission of inquiry on the matter was instituted by the police.
National Police spokesperson James Kadadzera Kadadzera said currently the commission of inquiry is still on the ground and once they are done they will table the report as is it a matter of public interest.
“The commission which was set to look into the matter is still on the ground, once they are done we will come back to the public with a report because they ought to know the truth of the matter,” he said.
“Meanwhile, it is hard to tell when they will conclude the investigation. They were given ample time to do that and we do not intend to interfere into the matter,” he added.
In October this year, women from and around areas of Msundwe, M’bwatalika and Mpingu in Lilongwe reported that they were sexually abused by people suspected to be police officers.
