President Peter Mutharika has faulted people whom he described as irresponsible for making Malawi a lawless and chaotic nation.
Mutharika made the remarks during the official launch of the 2019/2020 National Forestry season on Wednesday at Mkando Trading Centre in Mulanje district.
Mutharika further warned all those creating chaos in the country that they will be brought to book.
He cited a series of demonstrations with the recent one in Kasungu where angry people looted shops belonging to Burundian nationals in reaction to the killing of a five-year-old child by dogs owned by a Burundian national.
Mutharika described such incidences as work of some irresponsible people who have created lawlessness and anarchy.
“All this is happening because of some people irresponsible people, the people who lost the elections are creating anarchy. I will not allow them to turn this country into a jungle,” he said.
Mutharika also emphasized on the need for everyone, especially the youths to participate in tree planting and environmental management.
This year’s tree planting season is under the theme “Trees and forest for transformed landscape and livelihoods”.
