The Malawi Beach Soccer National team will make its third appearance at the COPA Dar es Salaam Beach Soccer Tournament as the team is geared to participate in this year’s competition scheduled for 22-26 December at Coco Beach in Tanzania.
The team, which has been camping in Salima also participated during the last year’s tournament where it performed badly after finishing last while in 2017 they clinched a Silver medal.
The team’s coach, Stereo Gondwe said he is impressed with the performance of his boys during training and he has all the confidence that the team will make it to the final stage this year.
While Gondwe admitting that all the eight teams taking part in the competition are strong, but he expressed hope in his squad although some of the players are new comers.
Gondwe said: “We selected players from across the country and we have the best crop that we wanted as you know last year we struggled but we have worked on the problems we had and now we are looking forward to a brilliant tournament.”
He further expressed satisfaction that the team has been provided with all the needed support in time.
Eight countries including Uganda, Malawi, Seychelles, Burundi, Libya, Kenya, Mozambique and the hosts Tanzania are expected to take part in the tournament.
The travelling team is composed of 10 players.
