As one way of giving a treat to the needy during the festive season, Zomba City Council has donated assorted items to patients at Zomba central hospital.
On Christmas day, Mayor for the city, Benson Bullah, led a team of city father officials and cheered the sick in hospital’s three wards of TB, women, men and ward 11 which accommodates prisoners.
Bullah said the gesture is part of the council’s corporate social responsibility to the community.
He said: “Some of these patients are coming from far away and it’s a challenge for them to get their daily needs hence we thought it wise to support them.”
He therefore called on more well-wishers to visit such facilities during this festive season and beyond.
In his remarks, Director for Zomba Central hospital, Matias Joshua, commended the gesture saying items donated will assist in meeting some of the needs of the patients.
“We need more people to visit these patients because some of them need to be cheered than just medication and in some circumstances cheering them quickens their recovery,” said Joshua.
One of the beneficiaries in male ward, who opted for anonymity, described the gesture as a welcome development saying he could not afford to buy such items on his own.
Some of the items donated include sugar, soap, body lotion and bread.
