At least 1,075 households have been affected by the heavy rains in Zomba district, officials say.
However, the number of affected families is expected to rise.
Zomba City Mayor, Benson Bulla told YFM Online that the households have various degrees of damage.
“So far we have recorded 128 households in Mtiya area, 200 households in Likangala area, 130 households in Masongola area, in Mpira area 350 households, in Mbedza area 50 households, Sadzi area 15 households and Chilunga 202 households,” he explained.
Bulla added: “All these households have various degrees of damage, others walls collapsed whilst others have been completely destroyed.”
He said no one has died in the disaster.
He said the council has recommended some relief items for the affected families including plastics and food stuffs.
