Human Rights Defenders Coalition (HRDC) chairperson Timothy Mtambo says he has information that some suspected ruling Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) cadets are plotting to assassinate him and other HRDC leaders.
Mtambo made the allegations in Mzuzu yesterday during the Quota Must Fall Movement demonstrations aimed at forcing government to abolish the quota system of selecting students to public institutions.
Mtambo said the attack is being organized to intimidate HRDC members to stop them from organizing anti Jane Ansa national wide demonstrations.
HRDC has been conducting demonstrations in all the major cities to force Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) chairperson Jane Ansa and all commissioners to resign for allegedly mismanaging the May 21, 2019 presidential polls.
Minister of Homeland Security Nicholas Dausi said he could not comment on the matter because he was busy in a meeting.
Attempts to speak to Minister of Information, Civic Education and Communications Technology, Mark Botomani and other DPP gurus also proved futile.
Meanwhile HRDC has announced that another round of anti-Jane Ansa demonstrations will take place on January 16.
