The Association of Early Childhood Development in Malawi says coverage of children in early childhood development centers (ECD) has improved with 46% increase from the previous 40%.
Executive director of the association Archie Malisita told YFM Online that the enrollment of children at the centers has improved especially towards the end of the year 2019.
“The enrollment has been overwhelming and we have managed to reach out to 46% of the 4 million under five children in Malawi,” he said.
Malisita however expressed worry on the training of care givers saying they have not performed well in this area, he therefore said they will ensure more care givers are trained to improve service delivery.
“Currently we have 17 thousand trained caregivers but we are supposed to have 37 thousand of them trained.”
“We are relying on our partnership with some non-governmental organizations for more care givers to be trained.”
He also commended parents for assisting in early childhood development activities,by molding bricks and provision of sand when building ECD centers.
