Zomba District Commissioner Raphael Piringu has applauded Youth Net and Counselling (YONECO) for promoting the rights of women and children in the country.
Piringu made the remarks on Monday when he paid a visit to YONECO head office in Zomba to appreciate the operations of the organization.
He said it is encouraging to learn that YONECO is carrying out different activities that are complementing government’s efforts in promoting the welfare of the people in the country.
Piringu said: “YONECO is doing a wonderful job and let me urge other organizations to emulate the good example because government has a number of policies and most of them are not implemented and YONECO is complementing some these gaps.”
He further highlighted a number of defilement cases that YONECO has handled saying the development is assisting in bringing sanity among the people in the country.
Commenting on the DC’s visit, the Executive Director of YONECO, MacBain Mkandawire said it was significant to the organization saying if the organization fails to interact with the DC’s office then it will be difficult to know the gaps at district level since the activities that the organization is supposed to carry out are meant to fill those gaps.
Mkandawire further hailed a cordial working relationship which exist between YONECO and the government.
This was Piringu’s first visit to YONECO since assuming office late last year after being shifted from his initial position as Zomba District Health Officer.
