Centre for Social Concern (CFSC) has expressed concern over government’s timing on giving compensation to people whose houses were marked for demolition to pave way for construction of Lirangwe-Chingale-Machinga Road.
Area Development Committee (ADC) Chairperson Redson Sumani confirmed that the government has started giving people compensations to move from their marked houses.
Speaking to YFM online, CFSC’s program manager responsible for economic governance, Donald Mphepo said despite achieving something they were lobbying for, for 10 years, people will still have challenges relocating to other areas during this rainy season.
“Generally, we are happy that finally these people have received their money after a very long period of time.”
“But we are still concerned due to the timing the government has decided to give the compensation because we are in mid of the rain season which is quite a challenge,” Mphepo said.
Construction work for the Lirangwe-Chingale-Machinga road stalled some months ago.
