The National Association of Small and Medium Enterprise- NASME has bemoaned the delays by the Malawi Bureau of Standards (MBS) in certifying products by SME’s in the country.
This was revealed during a meeting which was organized by the Parliamentary Committee on Trade and Industry and the large and small scale businesses in Blantyre.
NASME’s National Chairperson, William Mwale said many products take longer to be certified which affects upcoming business players to compete favorably on the market.
“We have lots of issues from the SME’s-most upcoming businesses are really facing challenges for their products to be certified,” he said.
“It takes longer to certify some products which affect the competitiveness of some products on the market.”
“We feel that the certifying body has some hiccups including insufficient funds and human resources which hinges on the whole certification process.”
The meeting which was held in Blantyre was aimed at reflecting on the performance of the large scale and small scale businesses.
