Police in Kasungu district are searching for 24 year-old Hebeki Banda on suspicion that he murdered his 2 months old son.

Public Relations Officer for Kasungu Police Station Harry Namwaza confirmed the development to YONECO FM online and said postmortem results revealed that the child died due to poisoning.

According to Namwaza the incident occurred on February 7, 2020 when the mother to the deceased, 19 year old Brenda Banda went to a nearby maize mill leaving the child sound asleep at home.

Upon her return from the maize mill she was surprised to be told by her grandmother that she had seen the child’s father Hebeki Banda forcing the child to eat pesticides.

It is rumored that Hebeki Banda the murder suspect was forced to Marry Brenda Banda after impregnating her and one of the villagers believes that this could have been a plan to liberate himself from the relationship.

Hebeki Banda hails from Zirambirana village, traditional authority chidzuma in Kasungu.
