UTM party says it is cautiously weighing options on possible electoral alliances with other political parties ahead of fresh elections.

The party’s leader and Malawi vice president Dr. Saulos Chilima made the remarks at his first rally at Masintha Ground in Lilongwe on Sunday since the Constitutional Court judgement.

Chilima disclosed that a number of political parties are approaching him for a possible alliance but he is weighing the merits and demerits of such alliance before any agreement.

He however said that even without any alliance his party is upbeat about victory in the coming elections.

The Constitutional Court on February 3, 2020 nullified the May 21, 2019 elections and ordered fresh elections in 150 days.
