The Electricity Generation Company Malawi Limited (EGENCO) has hinted on plans to do a major rehabilitation and modernization of their machines at Kapichira in order to improve power supply.
Egenco’s spokesperson Moses Gwaza made the revelation in an interview with YFM following the breakdown of their machines at Kapichira, Mapanga and Kanengo a development which has forced the Electricity Supply Corporation of Malawi to ration power.
Gwaza told YFM that they are anticipating one machine to be back online on Wednesday 26 February which means that 32MW of power will be back in the system and the other damaged machines are expected back later next month.
“When a power station is as old as 20 years as Kapichira Phase 1 it is a requirement that you do a major rehabilitation and modernization of the power station but these plans are in the pipeline only that we are waiting to complete the same project at Tedzani 3.”
Gwaza also told YFM that their company does maintenance works four times in a year to ensure that machines are reliable.
He has since assured the public that efforts are being made to ensure the machines are back online as soon as possible.
