Youth Net and Counselling (YONECO) has been commended for the strides it has made in addressing Trafficking In Persons (TIP) in Malawi.
The organization was commended on the sidelines of an Annual Review and Best Practice Conference on Trafficking In Persons Act which was organized by the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC).
Speaking to YFM Program Support Manager for YONECO Hughes Munthali said the recognition signifies the confidence that government and other stakeholders have in the work YONECO is doing.
“This is a good development and it just shows that we are doing a good job in fighting the vice.”
“We have toll free lines 116, 5600 and people call to report any suspicious activities which they note in their area and we also have walk in clients who report on different cases including TIP,” said Munthali.
In 2019, YONECO successfully intercepted and supported 38 survivors of trafficking in persons.
