Health expert has urged government to provide a strong monitoring team if the self-quarantine way of preventing Coronavirus is to be effective in the country.
The expert, Dorothy Ngoma made the request following government’s announcement that travelers from some selected countries into Malawi will on arrival now be put on a 14- day self-quarantine in the wake of the Corona pandemic.
According to a statement, Ministry of Health and Population released on a Monday, travelers from china, Italy, Iran, Korea, Germany, France, Spain, USA, Switzerland, Denmark, Sweden, UK, Netherlands, Norway, Belgium, Austria, Japan, Finland and Greece should under-go self-quarantine.
“Travelers will be followed up by a surveillance team for 14 days, in event they show signs and symptoms they will be taken to institutional facility for treatment,” reads part of the statement.
In response, Ngoma said for this to work, there is need for strict monitoring.
The health expert also wondered why South Africa is not on the list.
Meanwhile, Ministry of Health and Population is yet to establish a Coronavirus Testing Centre in the country.
