The Centre for Human Rights and Rehabilitation (CHRR) has announced the appointment of Mr. Michael Simon Kaiyatsa as Acting Executive Director for the organization.
Making the announcement through the media statement released on April 10, signed by CHRR Board Chairperson, Charity Salima, the appointment is with effect from April 7, 2020.
Reads part of the statement: “Board and the founding Trustees wish to inform the general public, development partners and all stakeholders of the appointment of Mr. Michael Simon Kaiyatsa as Acting Executive.”
The development follows the stepping down of vocal rights activist, Timothy Pagonachi Mtambo, who announced his resignation from Non-governmental Organisation (NGO) based-civil society activism and advocacy, including CHRR and formed a new political movement called Citizens for Transformation (CFT)-People Power Movement.
“Mr. Kaiyatsa brings a wealth of experience to the position having previously worked in management and in areas of communication, research, resource mobilization, advocacy and capacity building for many years,” the statement said.
Until his appointment, Kaiyatsa was CHRR’s Programmes Manager.
Through the statement, CHRR has also acknowledge the outstanding contribution made to the organisation by Ntambo as the outgoing Executive Director.
CHRR, is a human rights non-governmental organisation founded in February 1995 as a non-profit, apolitical, voluntary organization and registered under the Trustees Incorporation Act of 1962.
The organization was founded by former exiled students who returned home to the promises of a new democracy in 1994.
