Parliament has postponed a budget meeting which was scheduled to start on May 8, 2020.
According to an internal memorandum signed by Clerk of Parliament, Fiona Kalemba, the postponement follows a countrywide lockdown declaration due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Reads part of the memo: “I wish to inform you that the 2020/2021 budget meeting of parliament which was planned to be heard from Friday, May 8, 2020 has been postponed until further notice.”
President Peter Mutharika declared a countrywide lockdown which starts from the midnight of Saturday, April 18 to May 9, 2020.
Meanwhile people from different areas across the country have been protesting in the streets against the lockdown citing that they will starve of hunger as most of them rely on hand to mouth businesses.
