The inclusion of Civil Society Organizations (CSO’s) in the Presidential taskforce for COVID-19 will assist in tackling social cultural impact of the pandemic in Malawi.
This is according to the Open Contracting Multi-stakeholder Group (OC MSG) in reaction to President Mutharika’s address where he announced that CSO’s will be represented in the taskforce.
Mutharika in his speech directed that government should restructure the cabinet committee on Coronavirus which will now be known as the Presidential Taskforce on Coronavirus
Speaking to YONECO FM online, chairman for the group Leon Matanda said Mutharika has demonstrated good governance by taking on board recommendations from CSO’s and other sections of society on who should be incorporated in the Covid-19 committee.
“We believe that that’s the way government is supposed to respond to concerns by its citizens,” he said.
“There are different aspects associated with Covid 19 among them, education, social and cultural.”
OC MSG also believes that moving forward government will take a consultative and inclusive approach.
