The Malawi Health Equity Network (MHEN) has asked the Presidential Taskforce on Covid-19 to explore measures of preventing the further spread of the virus which will suit the current political situation in the country.
This follows the violation of the health measures by political parties who are conducting political rallies without observing social distance among others.
MHEN’s Executive Director, George Jobe, told YFM Online that it will be very hard to stick to the measures especially during this campaign period.
“It will be very difficult for people to follow the measures that were initially put up, large gatherings are inevitable during this time as everyone is emotionally hyped by the election.”
“There is need to redefine ways and the measures that can be applied to and applicable during this time,” he added.
Jobe however, asked political leaders to ensure that they protect their followers from the virus by among others providing face masks during their gatherings.
Since aspiring presidential candidates submitted their nomination papers last week, the country has witnessed life returning to normal as masses defied the measures of preventing the spread of corona virus including social distance and sanitation during political gatherings.
