In an effort to help the fight against the spread of COVID-19, a newly registered Non-Governmental Organisation – Masks4All has embarked on an initiative of distributing free fabric masks in the country.
According to Production Coordinator at Masks4All Ronald Ngwira, the charitable Organisation aims at producing 19 million masks to be distributed across the country.
“We are trying to produce masks and the target is that to get all 19 million Malawians anyone less than 2 years old with a mask, right now we have produced 4.4 million and we have distributed over a million,” said Ngwira.
He said Masks4All is working in collaboration with various stakeholders who are capable of reaching out to people in need of the masks.
“There are various forms of distribution, some through health centers, some through political leaders and other interested groups, we are reaching out to all NGOs and other organised groups to come and distributing on our behalf,” said Ngwira.
And on his part, Chief Medical Virologist and Medical Advisor for Masks4All Dr. Gama Bandawe said the use of masks correctly and effectively has proved to be one of the important preventive measures towards curbing the spread of the deadly outbreak.
“If everybody wears a mask, we will then have a situation where we will very powerfully stop and limit the spread of the virus [COVID-19] by everybody protecting each other by wearing these masks,” said Dr. Bandawe.
He also advised that fabric masks distributed by Masks4All are not used for medical purposes and that people should not use medical masks as they are reserved medical practitioners.
